- Clean lint from your dryer after every load.
- Keep flammables, like drapes, at least 3 feet from space heaters or other high heat sources.
- Check appliances for frayed wires.
- Avoid overloading outlets and power strips.
- Test your smoke detectors. If you don't have any, consider getting them.
